During one of my web hunting expeditions of the world’s luxurious art & culture hotels, I came across The Silo Hotel, a stunning new hotel towering above the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa. I have a soft spot for South Africa have lived in Johannesburg for close to 2 years. It is such a beautiful country brimming with so many different cultures, and I like that the Silo Hotel has incorporated this ethos of South Africa in its structures making it more than just a Luxury hotel filled with glitz and glamour.
The hotel having been built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupies six floors above what will become the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) which will house Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art and will open in September 2017. A wonderfully strategic setting for the hotel which means that a trip for art lovers to see some of Africa’s finest art at the Zeitz Museum could lead to a splendid night or two at the just as artsy hotel right above.
The exterior of the building was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, the founder and principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio who have made sure that the site maintains its strong industrial feel, adorning the Concrete walls with pillowed glass windows overlooking the harbour. The Interiors were conceived by The Royal Portfolio who worked on marrying the old with the new, giving the hotel a vintage meets contemporary look, a combination that we work on here at Runway Duchess Studio
The Silo Hotel has 28 rooms, including a spectacular one bedroom penthouse. The rooms have all been designed and decorated by Liz Biden with colourful and eclectic pieces. The 7 room categories are based on the room size and the views.
